Imagen
How do you think we could empower our Colombian students to critically spot fake news? As we know students are exposed to all the information that they can get from internet, tv news, newspapers. It is part of the work for a teacher to motivate students to think, understand, discuss about social issues, but it is important that they don’t belief all the information from this tools; they have to think about it and avoid false news. For this process is crucial to engage students to think, analyze and present their own arguments about news. A good strategy is to implement the reading material and make groups in order to order to get different point of views about the news that we are talking about or the    Implemention of criticial writing for example "where teachers invite students to move into deepening interrogations of knowledge in a globla context" Students should have the opportunity to think in a different way, and look for information from others source...

Henry Giroux: Where is the Outrage? Critical Pedagogy in Dark Times

I think that as a new generation of teacher students it was crucial that we take into account some key points from the video.  For example as Giroux mentioned it's time to reclaim the role that education has had along the years. Maybe people in charge of education in our country forget what is the real purpose of education, they are focus on carry out lesson only for give to students only one perception about it, and theachers are with all the autority in classrooms. Giroux give us and idea of what kind of students we need inside the classroom he said that teacher need to educate students capable to think, to question, doubt and defend education. This mean the implementation of critical thinking in class. On the other hand I think that Giroux had a really good idea about how education must be, but If we contextualize this concept of education in Colombia, I can say that we are so far of thosea ideas, because he was talking from his experience or maybe the reality in North Americ...

REFLECTION ABOUT STEREOTYPES

Stereotypes are beliefs that people build about the peoples' behaviour, in other words is like a characterization of a specific group.  in the video I could see how people answered about the stereotypes that people have about them. But It wasn't a critical way to give an opinion about it, because they were speaking about personal opinions  or personal experiences, so they should think about their culture in general, maybe they don't like to say things like they are so lazy or that they only think about parties, but sometimes we can see that all of those stereotypes are true in the majority of people although I don't agree to give a generalization because as we know people have different behaviours, different beliefs and different lifes' styles. As we  know when colombian people decide to live abroad at the beggining is too difficult to normalize their life's styles because of all the stereotypes that people abroad have about us, the majority are relat...

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Mark Zuckerberg Can Still Fix This Mess. The news about Facebook is not getting better. The company  has sharply increased  the number of users whose data was improperly shared with an outside company connected to President Trump’s campaign, to possibly 87 million. Amid an outcry, Mark Zuckerberg, the company’s chief executive, is expected to testify before Congress on Tuesday and Wednesday.    EXPLANATION n 2014, 270,000 people were paid by an outside developer to install a Facebook app and answer questions like “Do you panic easily?” and “Do you often feel blue?” They weren’t told that their answers would become part of a psychological profile used by a voter profiling company, Cambridge Analytica — first to assess how they might vote and second to design personalized advertising for the purpose of changing their political views or their likelihood of voting, all to favor the agenda of Cambridge Analytica’s funders and clients . The app also scooped up inf...

Reflection about the video

It was an interesting video, because help us to think about how we can use critical thinking in our lessons, as a future teachers is important to look for new strategies to teach, and for me the video give us revelants ideas to implement inside the classroom. For example in the video we can see how important is use this kind of strategies because when students are using critical thinking inside the classroom they can generate their own ideas, their own perspections and interpretations about the topic that is carry out in the lesson. In the video we can see importans concepts to understand what is the real meaning of think critically, for example a critcally informed action this is mean  all the information that is based on evidicence or experience that you can justified. Professor Brookfield give us alternatives or activities to implement in our lessons for example "Chalk talk"consists of carry out an activity with some intructions,  teacher need to  write o...

REFLECTIONS

REFLECTION 1: For me, the emotions that are most difficult to manage when others disagree with me is anger but I deal with these by listening others point of views and in this way clarify our ideas and have a final opinions about the topic. REFLECTION 2: For me the influences on my own thinking that I need to be most aware of so they don't prejudice my thinking is the religion, maybe it is one of the principal influences in my way of act. My family is another aspect that count to much in my way to think and the position that I have with some aspects in the society. I try to deal with this listening others people's perceptions. REFLECTION 3: For me, the things I find most difficult about challenging the opinions of other people is to respect the position of people, sometimes we think that we are right all the time but it isn´t. For that reason I deal with these by control my patient and I try to be more tolerant with the people's ideas. REFLECTION 4: Talking abou...
