How do you think we could empower our Colombian students to critically spot fake news?

As we know students are exposed to all the information that they can get from internet, tv news, newspapers. It is part of the work for a teacher to motivate students to think, understand, discuss about social issues, but it is important that they don’t belief all the information from this tools; they have to think about it and avoid false news. For this process is crucial to engage students to think, analyze and present their own arguments about news. A good strategy is to implement the reading material and make groups in order to order to get different point of views about the news that we are talking about or the  Implemention of criticial writing for example "where teachers invite students to move into deepening interrogations of knowledge in a globla context"


Students should have the opportunity to think in a different way, and look for information from others sources in order to clarify and prove that news are reliable.

    Hi Rose!

    I agree with your it is important that students can analyze different aspect of the society through the reading. But, I think that there are more strategies and methodologies to develop the critical thinking in the young learners. For example they think about what happen in their own environment. strategic like project that can resolve some questions and some problematics can develop the critical thinking in their students. In this way you can go beyond that look information and reading and you will teach your students to be a good people.

    I am in agreement with you. When students love reading and also know how to understand the meaning of those readings, it is easier for them to identify fake news. However, we should keep in mind that if teachers don't have critical reading skills, it is very difficult to teach them to their students. I have seen many cases where teachers don' t like reading and they also believe those fake news. Therefore, if teachers are not trained in this aspect, it will be very difficult for them to do so in schools.
